The Math Magician is a successful, passionate, and professional mathematics educator. In my experience teaching mathematics, I found common trends, among students and schools, that limit the innate potential of every person to believe that they can “do math”.

The content of mathematics is traditionally taught in a particular way, with memorization, rote practice and lots of points taken off on tests for little mistakes. This is frustrating to many students who do not connect with the typical presentation and expectations. Educational research and trends in neuroscience indicate that there are many learning styles, and that there is more brain activity when encountering difficulty and understanding mistakes. However, when students grow frustrated with mathematics (as everyone does at some point in my experience), the learning stops and sometimes never starts again. Students develop math anxiety or lack the self-confidence to take the risks necessary for understanding. A multi-representational language-forward approach to mathematics helps students understand that there is much more than just numbers and answers in the study of mathematics.
